So What is Fake Page Rank?
Fake page rank is a common search engine optimisation (SEO) trick you have to be aware of when doing a variety of things from buying an appealing domain to buying page links or adverts and that’s why you need to do a pagerank test.
PR is faked simply, by using a 301 redirection to send the domain to a higher ranked website. Here’s example; if I want to fake a domain’s PR I can use the redirect to point www.example.com to www.yahoo.com and this redirect will be applied only at the time when the Google bot makes a visit. The sinister part is that it doesn’t happen when visited by a normal visitor like you.
And Why Fake Page Rank is Bad
Domains having a fake Page Rank are often banned from being indexed by Google but what’s more important and without delay is that some sellers will advertise the domain as having a PR7 for example in order to raise the price you agree to pay for it. So that definitely begs the question – How do you make sure that you’re not caught out?
The answer is to do a pagerank test here http://testpagerank.net/
There are several simple preliminary methods of spotting a faked page rank.
One simple way is to check to see how many backlinks the site has. If a site has little or no (or very few) backlinks then it should not have a high pagerank.
Another simple preliminary way to check is by using Google’s info: operator.
In Google type: info:domainname.com Then if the site that is returned does not match the one that you searched for, it’s probably faked. Otherwise, it’s probably fine.
