Chrome PageRank

Those clever people at Google have provided us with Google Chrome, a new web browser that is currently in beta mode and gaining a good reputation. As they say, we now do so much online that we would never have dreamed of and it has become an important part of our lives. Hence the quest for the perfect browser which after all, is only a tool to run the more important things like pages, sites and applications. Google Chrome is described as “clean and fast” and it is claimed, gets out of the way and gets you where you wish to go.

However, at this stage Google Chrome has some limitations and one of them is that it does not display what might be described as Chrome PageRank. Some alarmists were even saying that it was the end of Google toolbar page rank. The search term “chrome pagerank” is quite well used, which seems to be an indication that it is regarded as a serious problem by many Internet users.

But isn’t it wonderful how somebody always pops up and provides unselfishly, just what it is that we need? So, enter the Chrome Fan who has built a Chrome PageRank status extension. There was a PageRank Status bookmarklet available in October 2008 that was based on JavaScript plugins and not a real Chrome extension. Google announced the availability of extensions for Chrome on May 12 2009 and developers can prepare and test Chrome extensions now.

The Chrome PageRank extension is to be found on the Chrome Fans website and is simple to install. It is essentially a toolbar extension, with the page rank of the site being visited to be seen in the bottom left hand corner of the page. No doubt, as Chrome continues to develop, Google will include a simple pagerank checker like the one we have in the Google toolbar in Internet Explorer. For those of us who like to be able to view the pagerank of the sites we are visiting and want it now, the problem has been solved.
